Moniker Art Fair returns to Shoreditch

Moniker Art Fair returns to Shoreditch from 1 1 -14 October. Moniker 2012 is an installation based only edition, featuring designated artist project spaces combined with a commercial element. Each space will be individually curated presenting a twist to the traditional art fair format. As the contemporary and urban art worlds increasingly overlap Moniker has continued to evolve, resulting in the most diverse array of artists to be showcased at Moniker to date. Works range from the widely acclaimed Niels ‘Shoe’Meulman who’s art form fuses calligraphy and graffiti seamlessly, to Mark McClure’s abstract sculpture constructed from found materials through to the colourful world of Casey Gray whose paintings takes inspirations from that of 17 th century Flemish still life, urban culture and visuals associated with electronic music.

‘Project Space’ highlights will include an intriguing glimpse into the surreal world of artist Nancy Fouts. ‘Electric rocking Chair’ and ‘Grandfather Clock’ will form part of an installation of intricate and original pieces filled with the artist’s dark humour and abstract view of the world. Fouts frequently references themes of nature, time and mortality, leaving the interpretation of their meaning open to the mind of their viewers. Remi/Rough, abstractionist and one of London’s most prolific painters, will feature within ’30th & Time’, a New York inspired street scene curated by Moniker Projects and supported by G-Shock. The two storey high installation spanning the back wall of the main atrium will incorporate a sidewalk and archetypal New York bus stop.

Remi will paint the building’s fascia, replicating the artwork he created for London’s largest mural on the Megaro Hotel in Kings Cross. Berlin based artist Vermibus ‘borrows’ advertising posters from the streets, using them as a base material in his studio where a process of transformation begins. Kate Moss is the subject of his latest project. ‘Unmasking Kate’ will be unveiled at Moniker within a dank underground studio.

US legend from the pop surrealist movement, Luke Chueh, will present his ‘Template Series’. Working from outlines of his much-loved rabbit and bear characters Chueh will create a range of new paintings inspired by his London surroundings and inviting fellow Moniker 2012 artists and audience to participate.
