Future Shorts Summer Season and Cortes Acoustic @ The Yard Theatre

The finest selection of short films will be returning to London to be showcased at The Yard Theatre as part of The Hive Project, one of the most exciting and cultural spaces in East London; previously a dormant warehouse converted into a theatre and renovated in recycled and reclaimed materials, located in the heart of the creative Hackney Wick area.
Throughout the evening audience will have the exclusive opportunity to see the most recent programme of short films carefully selected by Future Shorts, the first and biggest global pop-up film festival. The sister company of Secret Cinema selects international stories which represent the diverse nature of its audience. The Summer Season 2013 program represents works which have been recognized by Sundance Festival, Chicago Film Festival, British Independent Film Award and other renowned international film organizations.
The Future Shorts Summer Season 2013 includes 6 critically acclaimed short films sourced from around the world: Boneshaker (USA; 2012) by Frances Bodomo – a portrait of the struggles of an African family lost in America; the award-winning La Huida (Spain; 2011) by Victor Carrey: a narrative puzzle, and the deconstruction of an event from a variety of prismatic viewpoints. The Pirate of Love (Iceland; 2013) by Sara Gunnarsdottir, an animated feature about the outsider musician Daniel C.; The Hidden Smile (Spain; 2011) by Venture Durall which constructs a realistic tale on the values that flourish in a society formed by children; Irish Folk Furniture (Ireland; 2012) by Tony Donoghue, an animated documentary about traditional Irish furniture and winner at Sundance 2013 for Best Animation short film; and Volume (UK; 2012) by Mahalia Belo, about the mysterious disappearance of Georgina, from the perspective of her neighbour Sam.

The Short Films night will be accompanied by an acoustic gig from Cortes band. Cortes band are known for their exceptional music quality and incredible energy and are currently working on their debut EP. London based singer and guitarist Andy Cortes has been playing guitar with world-wide artist K’naan and has also played on the same stage with bands such as Lenny Kravitz, Jason Mraz and Black Eyed Peas.
