Tell us about the band? What did inspire you to start? What was the inspiration behind your name?

Our band is called El Born. We formed last year. We had these songs and we were looking for the right raw sound to hang them on. Whilst in El Born, Barcelona we kind of fell in love with the dark raw ugly beauty in the decay of the place and I suppose the link is we wanted to create music that sounded like that place looked and felt.

What are you working on right now?

Right now we are just in the final stages of our 7 month Tour. We are heading up to the release our next single “You Made Me” (out July 7th)

When can we see you in Shoreditch?

Man we can’t wait to hit the stage at 93 Feet East on July 17th. It’s gonna be wild and we want to leave something behind on this one.

What was your most successful or most enjoyed gig so far?

I honestly feel that we play every show like it’s our last so it would always have to be our last one, which at this point in time makes that London Barfly the other week.

How would you describe your typical fan?

Original. Somebody who is clearly on to something. We ain’t no fashion band so don’t come see us if you want EDM or some kind of beardy folk band trying it’s best to rip off Bon Iver. We are a very raw Rock & Roll band and we only want to push things forward. We believe our fans bring that vibe into every show.

Who writes the lyrics to the songs? Are the music and lyrics written in conjunction, or separately?

I write the songs (Si). Usually a song comes along with the lyrics and music complete in my head. I have a theory that all songs are already written and that our job as songwriters is to notice them and hopefully not get in the way of them. Songs are the most honest things we have and that’s why performing them doesn’t get tiring.

How would you describe your creative processes?

Generally we have, at any one time about 30 songs that we are working on. It can get frustrating when we are busy Touring Etc. As we want to work of more new music but we have to focus.  I write a lot of them in my head nowadays so once I’ve worked out the chords. We get in and work on the feel. Songs are living animals. They grow older and develop into something different from what they were born as. I don’t ever feel a song is ever finished.

When it comes to recording, we record completely live with few overdubs. We want to capture and not produce. Getting the balance is an art form and not easily done but we are proud of what we have so far.

What are your plans for the future?

At the moment we are living day to day but the future holds some great things. We are planning on putting out our debut Album and Touring loads more.
