Interview With Antix

Antix_1

Tell us about Antix, how long have you been performing? What inspired you to start? What was the inspiration behind your name?

The name will always remain a mystery… simply because the origin of the name is a huge let down J I have been doing this rap thing since my late teens, and it turned from a hobby, into a passion, into my life. When my mum passed away, I realised that life is way too short to not do what you love. So instead of going to University and doing Law, I hit the studio and learned my craft. Never looked back since.

What was your most successful or most enjoyable gig so far?

Every gig has its merits. I can say that I have had one or two terrible ones… where people lounged around talking to each other and not listening. Terrible sound systems, muffled vocals etc. But any show where I can connect with a fan and make them fall in love with what I do is a great show. Thankfully I have had a lot more of those than the bad ones!

How would you describe your typical fan?

Idealistic and thoughtful, someone who appreciates soul and heart. Someone who cares about words, ideas and feelings, and less about ridiculous trends. All my fans are hugely supportive, and incredibly passionate people… I have had the great pleasure of connecting with a lot of them personally.

Where have you performed in?

I have been lucky enough to perform in all sorts of great venues from LA to Europe. I have shared stages with Hip Hop icons and European Jazz outfits. The music seems versatile enough to be able to do that.

Are the music and lyrics of your songs written in conjunction, or separately? How would you describe your creative process?

Everything starts in my head as an idea or concept. I then get the necessary musicians, lay down the elements to have a simple foundation. I write my lyrics and the chorus to that, lay it down, then get to producing. It is at the point that the project takes its final shape. But I usually always write my lyrics to my music.

What are your plans for the future?

Lots in the pipeline for the future. Working on getting the new single ‘Breathless’ out there, filming the next project, and gearing up for the album in the New Year. I have lots of shows coming up starting off with a set on the 12th of Septemeber, at the Camden Jazz Café Supa Dupa Fly night. Stay tuned, there is a lot more coming!
