Edward Snowden proved that Big Brother is no longer fiction. The government is watching everyone via our smart phones: telescreens beyond George Orwell’s wildest dreams. It’s time to fight back. ‘1984’ by The Affair combines the colours and workwear styling of Orwell’s novel with stealth fabric technology to create clothes that make privacy a choice.

Co-Founder Zoltan Csaki says, “Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ is one of our favourite novels, but it’s not supposed to be read as a manual for oppression. So when news of Snowden and the NSA broke last year we couldn’t sit idle whilst our basic human rights were eroded. The result is our ‘1984’ collection with embedded UnPocket™ stealth fabric technology which allows you to quickly and easily ‘go dark’ and drop off the surveillance grid. It’s fashion inspired by Orwell’s fiction and built for the post-Snowden reality”.

The menswear collection is built around a removable pocket made from police-grade shielding fabrics that block all cellular, WiFi, GPS and RFID signals to ~100 dB (13.56 MHz – 2.4 GHz). Named in homage to Orwell, the UnPocket™ works much like Winston Smith in the bowels of Minitrue: simply pop your phone inside and become invisible to Big Brother within seconds. Untrackable.

UnPocket™ works globally with any smartphone and any carrier and fits all but the very biggest devices. Measuring 4.25 x 6.25 inches internally (11 x 16 cm), it’s also big enough to fit your ePassport and contactless bank cards, making you secure against wireless identity theft. Unhackable.

The ‘1984’ collection is available for preorder via Kickstarter from 2 pm GMT (9 am EST / 6 am PST) September 3 at wholesale prices for everyone with free international shipping. One UnPocket™ is included with each piece of the collection and UnPocket™ is also sold separately as a stand alone accessory.
