London Beasts series is part of Five Second Stories project by Robert Clear. It explores how images and words can make an impact in the mind of a viewer who’s prepared to give only five seconds of their time. It’s part of a series called which tells stories featuring animals associated with the capital. According the artist: “Having grown up in the age of the internet I expect a world of creative content to be available for my delight and delectation whenever and wherever I demand it. I expect constant novelty and amusement. In those rare moments of self-awareness it’s easy to look around, to notice that the rest of the world holds the same expectation and to find wanton consumerism rather bleak. Instead I decided to use the desire for instant gratification as a theme for my work. I think five seconds is the most you can expect of a stranger’s time (and frankly that’s being pretty generous). So that’s the creative constraint I’ve set for myself. Working within it to create pictures that have maximum impact is the aim of my project, and so far it’s been a tremendous experience.”
