Artists Unframed

Tucked away in the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art laid rare photographs of some of the most famous artists from the 20th century. These pictures offer a new way of seeing artists; we are so used to associating their work with their name, we rarely stop to think about the artist as a person, how they lived and what may have influenced them. Curated by Merry Foresta, these 100 candid images give an inside peek into the lives of artists, from relaxing on holidays, celebrating at parties to simply spending time with their loved ones, revealing a unique insight into their lives.
