New York based artist Dennis Owusu-Ansah has caused a stir on Instagram with his unique collection of paintings dubbed ‘African Royalty’, which depicts some of your favourite celebrities in full traditional African attire.
The 26-year-old paints in bright bold colours equipped with intricate patterns, transforming the images of Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and Beyonce into stunning African icons with traditional names.
Dennis hopes that his incredible body of work will act as a educational tool, shining a light on the beauty of traditional African culture and it’s influence on modern day fashion.
So far artists like Chris Brown and Hollywood actress Meagan Good, have reposted his work thanking the artist for his creativity.
With 21k followers on Instagram and counting, each painting received thousands of likes from his adoring fans.
Stand out pieces includes his depiction of Jay Z, who he renamed ‘Chief Shawn “Ugonna” Jay Z Carter’, and ‘Martin Luther King’s dream’, which shows a striking image of President Obama and the late civil rights activist sitting together in Kente cloth.
