Art is a very powerful way of creating social change and providing voices to those who are otherwise marginalized from society.

Artist Angélica Becerra‘s series “Palabra” highlight activists within the LGBT community and communities of color. Her project began as a design for a flyer and later became the basis for many watercolor portraits.

She focuses specifically on activist figures in this series and pairs them with some of their famous quotes. Becerra intends to spark inspiration and solidarity in viewers who identify with these groups. She used watercolors as a way to represent change that can occur by viewing her work, since watercolors can easily be transformed into something different.
