In the beginnings of her creative career, Alice Wellinger worked as a graphic designer- but after becoming a mother, she started to write and illustrate books for young readers. Since then, despite having made another job transition into an editorial illustrator, Wellinger’s work is still evocative of childhood. Surreal and dream-like, her creations have a certain literary quality to them, each one suggestive of a fantastical narrative that could’ve been dreamt up in the mind of a child. Inspired by her own memories or by everyday life experiences, Wellinger has affirmed that she “always trys to tell a little story in her pictures” and in turn produces whimsical works that continuously stir up the imaginations of her audiences.
