Since the age of ten, Tigran Tsitoghdzyan has made a name for himself in the art industry. Hundreds of Tsitoghdzyan’s childhood paintings were chosen by Henrik Iguityan to be displayed as a solo exhibition in Armenia. Since then, Tsitoghdzyan has travelled the world showing his art and now resides in New York City. His current works display uncanny portraits that appear to be photographed but have the precision of a painting. In these portraits, the viewer gets to see the boldness of the female who appears to want to hide her face. She becomes this grand figure of delusion because even with her hands covering her face, the eyes still make way to the forefront. The large portraits start from a photograph. Tsitoghdyzan then takes the image and turns it into a painted portrait with little touches that separate it from a photograph. With different tonal changes that are unable to be produced through a photograph, the viewer gets a heightened sense of emotion from the model. These large portraits in different hues of black and white make statements across the wall. Tsitoghdzyan’s theme delves into the mystery of life as well as the delusion of grandeur.
