Doña: New Pop Up Mezcal Bar Launching in Stoke Newington

Launching on Stoke Newington High Street on Thursday 31st October, Doña is a new pop-up mezcal bar from Mezcal enthusiast Thea Cumming, founder of Dangerous Don, and Lucie Massey, the brains behind Cuppa Gumbo & Slap Ya Papa. Combining mezcal, music and a female-led cutting-edge programme of entertainment, the bar’s opening weekend will be a wild Day Of the Dead celebration, with guests encouraged to dress as their favourite female ancestors.

Bold, strong and stylish, this basement bar, whose name refers to the feminine form of ‘Don’, is inspired by the vibrancy of Mexico and the sexiness of a 1920s Harlem jazz club. The bar will feature plush velvet banquet-style seating, atmospheric low lighting and candles, with hues of crimson, scarlet and pink throughout.

From Wednesday to Saturday Doña will open its doors and serve a small but mighty selection of high quality Mezcal cocktails. Originating from Mexico, the agave-based spirit is widely celebrated for its distinctive smoky flavour, making it the perfect base for a diverse and interesting cocktail list. Examples from the list at Doña include the Fiorella (Dangerous Don Mezcal, Virtuous Ginger, Supasawa, Agave, Lime Wheel and Coffee Beans) and the Doña (Dangerous Don Mezcal, Martini Ambrato, Campari).   To accompany the cocktails, live music will take place every night, with a spotlight on female performers. Fridays at Doña will have a female focus and each jazz night will feature an array of up-and-coming male and female performers.
