Shoreditch’s Best Hidden Gems

Shoreditch is an area suitable for everyone, for those who want to be immersed in all that London has to offer and those who prefer a more laid-back lifestyle. Notting Hill Genesis’ latest collection of homes at Principal Place provides the ideal opportunity for first time buyers and downsizers alike to invest in a stunning open plan property.

Principal Place’s residents can take advantage of a brilliantly diverse range of shops, bars, restaurants and attractions to enjoy both day and night on their doorstep. There is a fusion of restaurants, quirky boutiques and traditional stalls to explore at Spitalfields Market and a selection of Michelin-starred restaurants and curry houses that line Brick Lane. Well-known Columbia Road Flower Market and the world-famous pop up mall, Boxpark, are all within walking distance.

Here we discover five of Shoreditch’s hidden gems, from a painstakingly restored home to a café that turns into a nightclub, Shoreditch truly is the place to be!

  1. Dennis Severs’ House – www.dennissevershouse.co.uk

In 1979, Dennis Severs brought an old Georgian terraced house on Folgate Street in Spitalfields and painstakingly restored each room in his new home to reflect a different era. The house is a time capsule attraction in which visitors are immersed in a unique form of theatre. Ten rooms have been decorated to recreate snapshots of life in Spitalfields between 1724 and 1914.

Visitors are escorted through the building, which Dennis Severs describes as a ‘still life drama’, visiting the cellar, kitchen, dining room, smoking room and upstairs bedrooms. With hearth and candles burning, smells lingering and objects scattered haphazardly, the building feels as though its residents have just popped out for the day.

  1. The Book Club – www.wearetbc.com

By day two spacious floors of a former Victorian warehouse on Leonard Street provide the ideal space for eating, drinking, thinking & meeting.  The interior blends the raw, pared-down character of the factory building with layers of bespoke furniture, mosaics and graphic lighting features, as well as the constantly evolving exhibitions that adorn the walls. It’s open, airy, drowning in natural light and the perfect environment for meetings, lunches, an afternoon cocktail or a quick game of ping pong!

By night The Book Club turns into one of Shoreditch’s best night clubs, this buzzing social scene is a must visit offering themed nights throughout the month.

  1. The London Shuffle Club – www.londonshuffle.com

The London Shuffle Club is the UK’s first Shuffle Board club, featuring six indoor lanes plus an amazing outdoor shuffleboard terrace with two rain-proof lanes and its very own Airstream cocktail bar. On weekends the club offers a bottomless brunch where players can enjoy endless top ups of prosecco, beer and pizza as they play.

  1. Flight Club – www.flightclubdarts.com/london

Flight Club has reinvented darts for the 21st century, providing a range of fast paced, exciting multiplayer games designed to bring people together and keep them entertained. Set over two floors the venue contains three throw lines and a variety of games, including Demolition Darts (classing 301 but with a Flight Club twist).

Signature cocktails and mouth-watering pizzas are on tap to ensure that guests are well catered for.

  1. The Prince’s School – www.psta.org.uk/open-programme

Nestled between the urban landscape and down a quiet side street is The Prince’s School, an art school running courses, lectures and workshops that cover a variety of techniques.
