The Old Dairy
Henry Davis explores ideas around the construction of identity and memory as he captures his childhood home with haunting effect in the solo exhibition Beautiful Noise. The artist presents eight self-portrait photographs and four short films, which will be shown in a purpose built 5 x 5 metre cube, offering the audience a completely immersive audio-visual experience. Filmed in the artist’s family home in collaboration with Ascension Films, who specialize in aerial cinematography, the audience are invited to confront their own feelings towards the domestic settings and the roles they inhabit- both voluntarily and involuntarily.
In his own words, the artist is daring to reveal what has been repressed, and by choosing to do so within the confines of his familial home it is very much a conscious analysis. Beautiful Noise, which references a Neil Diamond album released in 1976, communicates the space between reality and fantasy, provoking discussion around truth and the narratives we learn and unlearn.
Henry Davis worked as a set designer for film before becoming a visual and performance artist – Beautiful Noise employs all these disciplines and is his first solo exhibition in London.
