Design
Design is at the centre of Mama Shelter London Shoreditch. Throughout the hotel – designed in collaboration with French interior designers Maxime Dion & Florence Arles – guests will find vibrant furnishings, bold artworks and colour and pattern at every turn.
The graffiti ceiling (by French artist Beniloys), the graphic carpet, the comfy armchairs and the singular ornaments that fill the bookshelves all echo an aspect of Mama’s personality. The cartoon masks used as lamp shades remind guests that Mama doesn’t take things too seriously, and the plush sofas contribute to this notion of creating a home away from home.
Rooms
There are three different room options – Small Mama (sleeps two), Medium Mama (sleeps two), Large Mama (sleeps four) – full of cutting-edge design elements specially crafted by Dion & Arles.
Each is a sanctuary, featuring home comforts coupled with all the needs of modern-luxury living. From spacious king-size beds with luxury sheets, free movies and organic amenities for the conscious traveller, Mama is the ideal place for a comforting stay. Additional amenities include free high-speed Wi-Fi, a safe, desk to work, Smart TV, a mini fridge and fun photo booths.
Mama’s perfectly formed space is an ideal bolthole in the middle of super-cool Shoreditch. Whether guests are alone or in a duo, the Small Mama is designed to make them feel at home, with everything close to hand. Visitors can go single, double and even underground! Medium Mama offers an ideal respite from the city bustle, available as twin beds or a roomy double, and the Large Mama offers up to 35 m² of play space right in the middle of the city’s vibrant East End. From doubles or twins, to unusual Large Double or even a Large Triple.
Each room has an en-suite bathroom, equipped with organic Mama Skin products, developed in collaboration with the French skincare brand Absolution. The rooms are where Mama’s cheeky side comes out to play; guests can purchase a Mama Sexy Box, enjoy some of the free X-rated movies and most rooms have a mirror that looks onto the bed.
Mama Restaurant
The heart of Mama, the Mama Shelter London Shoreditch all-day restaurant is all about relaxed gatherings, lively get-togethers and informal celebrations, with homemade food, signature cocktails, music sessions, table football, ping-pong, brunch and events. Shoreditch locals and travellers alike mix together to bring the city spirit to Mama.
Open for Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, a Sunday roast, or even just a late-night snack, Mama’s restaurant serves delicious homemade dishes. Choose from a selection of starters such as seared yellowfin tuna served with crostini, fine beans and aioli; nduja doughnut served with smoked paprika mayonnaise, and grilled asparagus served with toasted hazelnuts and parmesan cheese.
World-inspired main dishes include Mama’s Fish n’ Chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas Shoreditch-style – a favourite in East London; California Rainbow Salad with heirloom tomatoes, sweet pickle red cabbage and truffle potatoes, indicative of Mama Shelter LA’s health and wellness culture; and a Peri Peri Chicken Burger with red Leicester cheese and peri-peri mayonnaise inspired by Mama Shelter Lisbon. These sit alongside a delicious pan roasted cod loin with poached king prawns, mussels and seafood velouté, and a vegan shepherd’s pie with stewed lentils and tofu, and vegan cheese on top.
Come weekends, guests can join the Mama’s iconic brunch, serving dishes such as Duck Hash with fried duck egg, mushroom duxelles and hash brown to vibrant Shakshuka with free range eggs, avocado, feta, coriander and local London Fields sourdough toast. Wash down with craft cocktails from the Kentucky Iced Latte to the spicy Red Pepper Margarita. Sunday roasts share the weekend spotlight serving a range of dishes including Mushroom Duxellington, Beef Wellington and Roast Cornfed Chicken with all the trimmings.
The Private Dining Room is the perfect place for a special dinner to wine and dine guests. This can also be hired out for meetings and can hold up to 12 guests. A full kids’ menu is also available.
Mama Shelter Bar & Garden Bar
Mama’s central bar is London’s ultimate hangout. Colourful, fun, laidback and lively, with an extensive drinks list and live music sessions, creating a casual and vibey atmosphere. Mama Shelter Bar is perfect for an after-work beer, or an inclusive and fun date spot. Guests are invited to chill on cosy sofas, hideaway in nooks or get competitive with a game of table football and classic arcade games.
Mama’s experienced bartender’s can shake up your preference, with their signature cocktails including Mama’s Porn Star No 2, a twist on a Pornstar Martini or the Holy Smoke, a delicious and boozy blend of Jameson’s Orange Irish whisky, Jameson’s Black Barrel and Disaronno. Mama’s Jugs make the ideal choice for groups of friends, including the fresh-tasting, Into The Jungle. An extensive range of wines, beers and spirits are also available, as well as a specially curated virgin cocktail list in partnership with London Essence Co.
Prefer to drink alfresco? Mama Shelter’s beautifully green outdoor courtyard space, featuring a covered island cocktail bar with bold monochrome striped awning, eclectic furnishings, is East London’s best kept secret come rain or shine. Available for private hire, the Garden Bar is found in the centre of the hotel boasting an open roof and terrace-style seating, welcoming both summer and winter sun.
Music and Karaoke
Pluck up enough Dutch courage in the bar and head down to enjoy the ultimate ‘Mama Shelter experience’ in one of two Karaoke rooms, hosting up to 15 guests per room – fully soundproofed, they are the perfect addition to any lively party or gathering (£20 pp per two-hour booking).
Mama Shelter’s Karaoke experience enables guests to choose their perfect playlist from over 10,000 songs which can be created before arrival. From Pop, RnB, Disco, Rock, there’s something for everyone! Food and drinks can be ordered direct to the booths.
Mama always has a packed events schedule. From talks and panel discussions earlier in the week, comedy on Thursdays, and DJs over the weekend to liven up the scene and entertain guests well into the night.

Mama Shelter London Shoreditch is perfectly equipped for meetings and events. With two large Ateliers (meeting rooms) and a private meeting room, there are plenty of flexible working set ups, so it can host a press conference just as easily as a post-work party. Mama Shelter has been disrupting the hotel scene since its Paris launch in 2008 with its eccentric, sassy, fun and accessible approach to hospitality.
The Mama Shelter journey started with the launch of Mama Paris East.
