The Book Club – Not for Bibliophiles

All is good about The Book Club; however it has one down side and that is: It does’t have a library. I went here hoping to find a nice book to read over the weekend but to my disappointment there were no books in sight. So if you’re after a nice book do not go to The Book Club. If you’re after a nice evening with drinks and some light bites then head down Leonard Street and get into number 100, welcome to The Book Club. You’re in the right place especially if drinks means cocktails to you. They have an extended list of cocktails for £7 a glass. The Green Beast seems like the best choice if you dare to release your inner monster as we’re talking about absinthe here. Even better; get a jug for £30 and invite your friends to the dark side! You may as well go for a more Mediterranean option and order the Vegetarian Platter (£12) and wash it down with an Italian white. The wine list isn’t too pricey so feel free to order the most expensive wine on the menu; that’ll be only £22.

The Book Club is not just a bar which also happens to serve food. It is a venue which hosts various events seven days a week. In order to hate Sundays a little less, The Book Club has invented the fortnightly Blues evening. It’s £4 for the social and £8 if you need a hand with your moves on the dance floor. The experienced lesson starts at 6:30. Beginners, shine your shoes and be there at 7:30.

If you’re still looking for that “soul mate of yours” s/he may be at the speed date which takes place every other Monday. It’s especially for people in their mid 20s and 30s and to make it a fair game they’re trying to keep the number of ladies and gents equal so make sure you book.

It’s really hard to categorize The Book Club so I’d call it a multipurpose venue. It even has a table tennis and a King Pong tournament every Tuesday. Does that make it a sports bar?

Given the noise level and the seating plan The Book Club resembles a school canteen to me but the overall judgement is that it is a spacious and casual place where you can hang out with your friends, dance, play ping pong and who knows find your significant other; just don’t look for that book here, they don’t have a library.
