Sorry for being a little late for this week’s article but I was at a meeting with the weather gods and I’ve got some bad news. Summer is nowhere in the horizon and with the weather denying the fact that it is supposed to be spring by now I gave up my hopes for the warm days and started looking for shelters to escape London weather. A plane ticket to Marrakesh seemed like an attractive escape route however a bit pricey; unlike a cinema ticket. I know it’s not the same thing but rain doesn’t exist as long as you don’t see what’s going on outside. I believe in the magic of the white screen. Here are a couple of cinemas in Schoreditch which you can hide in until the rain stops – and even after :
Not only a cinema but also a music, performance and exhibition center Rich Mix can be the answer to the usual question: “what shall I do with myself today?” It has an area for various live events such as comedy shows, ping pong tournaments, talks and poetry days as well as concerts and exhibitions. They have free events on Wednesday for which they have to raise £ 3000 (FYI, dear rich and generous reader). The cinema shows up to date films and the prices start from £ 7.70 for adults, £6.00 for students and £ 3.5 for seniors. In addition to Hollywood films they show independent and world cinema some of which is free! If you happen to take a junior out for a day in London, Kid’s Cinema can save you the agony of spending your whole day in Hemley’s among screaming youngsters. Kid’s Cinema is not the only child friendly initiative of Rich Mix. They also have a Parents and Babies Day on Mondays when you can bring along your little one to catch a new release movie and not worry about any one shushing you. You can also hire screens for private and corporate events. Check out their web site for more detailed film times and prices.
