Shoreditch Town Hall To Open A ‘Crowdfunded’ Restaurant

Chef Isaac McHale is getting ready to open a set menu restaurant in Shoreditch Town Hall. Diners will be offered a 4-course menu plus snacks and there will be a separate bar that will have a short menu including wine and cocktails. The chef believes that that will give them the freedom to serve great dishes that the guest might not normally pick from an a la carte menu. He hopes that this will also avoid ‘diner envy’ or the guests picking options that he is not known for.

The still unnamed restaurant will be invested partly through ‘crowdfunding’. McHale believes the majority of the early investors through their Crowdcube website will be like-minded friends, family members and customers before it expanding to the general public. The investors should be able to receive tax relief for investing in a small business and other advantages with a chance to sell to the founders or co-investors after three years. But McHale is hoping that the investors are not looking for a quick exit strategy. He wants all the ground-floor investors in the project to be their partners at least for a while. He is also aiming to open two more sites that the investors would benefit from.
