Shoreditch Top 5 by DJ Nikos

Nikos, a DJ with more than a decade of experience, electronic prodigy in Greece, founder of Reworks Festival (Greece’s seminal cultural event) and most recently founding member of the entertainment group CNL Events Ltd (Krush). Quite a lot for one person to achieve. Nikos has always thought of Shoreditch his home away from home and has used his experience and creativity to push the boundaries of his events in the Londons beloved area. Here he gives us his top 5 favourite places on the area before his huge event next month with DJ Tennis and Thugfucker.

1. St Johns Spitafields

I had the best meal there. If they serve that wild rabbit with green sauce ever again, go for it. Aces with meat and wine; don’t trust the seafood though.

2. The Boundary Hotel roof-top cafe/restaurant (and the hotel itself)

Whenever you’re lucky enough to get a few shaft of light up in the sky , it’s the best spot in town to kick back leisurely. The deco also reminds me a bit of home (Greece)

The rooms are fantastic! Deco-wise the best hotel in town (unless you’re into that Mayfair-like floral-post-baroque-carpet-smothered boredom)

3. Tramshed

Simple, easy, effective! Chicken or steak and fries; Boom!

It’s one of these places though that won’t be good/cool forever so get there now, before it’s too late.

4. The Heron tower top floor view

Technically, I think, it’s within the limits of the square mile but if you can get up there you’ll get the best view of Shoreditch; like you’ve never seen it before.

5. That Redchurch  garage-like sale a couple of shop fronts next to the Boundary

Vintage clothing is not my thing but I’d pop down that ‘shop’ whenever I’m there. He looks a bit like he jumped out of that Donnie Brasco movie and he’s always smiley, cool and funny. Makes my day!

Info about the next DJ Nikos event:

On September 29 sees the most in-demand label of the year hitting our floor with no better reps than the founders in the flesh:  Dj Tennis – Italian born, Berlin frequent, long term dj, promoter, music connoisseur and, most recently, producer is well his ability to deliver the most talked about parties. From the life and Death showcase in Barcelona, during Sonar 2012, through the Club Der Visionaere do and the Ibiza marathons, Tennis seems to be (in the words of James Cameron) the king of the world. Get a glimpse of the man in the act here:

Though Thugfucker have been producing house and disco for years, their breakthrough hit came only in 2011. “Disco Gnome” polished up a familiar R&B vocal hook and turned it into one of the zeitgeist defining tunes of the year. It straddled genres lines, built at a slow and sultry tempo and featured plenty of shimmering synths. So too did it come with equally on-point remix from Tale of Us with whom Italian-New York duo Holmar Filipsson and Greg Oreck have since gone on to work (as Life And Death) on Visionquest’s eponymous imprint. The duo plays around the world from fabric to BPM festival to WMC so we are glad to have them. 140,00 views and growing; Thugfucker – Discognome – Life and Death records

Of course, resident Nikos will be on had to spin his classy house selections, with more names being announced in the run up to the party.
