Outside Shoreditch: Unusual Performers from Amiens (Northern France) – Zic Zazou

ziczazou03

Zic Zazou has been there for 30 years ! Unusual band with a continuous line of music  has always swung between street performances and shows in theaters. Nine musicians-singers, actors, craftsmen, inventors compose their music, play and explore the endless possibilities of melodic and rhythmic objects. Check the Carmen-Bizet video below:

Their art has taken them into the realms of traditional Beaux Arts brass band music, recycled punk, hybrid musette/funk rock and into art involving a hotchpotch of musical objects. Everything gets thrown into the melting pot, helping to maintain the vitality that lies at the core of Ziczazou’s art. The musicians are just as at home with the electric guitar as they are with the piano and trombone S or ‘playing’ chair legs or bottles.

All band members hail from Amiens, in Northern France, and their track record consists of hundreds of gigs in France and around the globe. Their performances that made the greatest impact were: La Bête dans la Ville [The Beast comes to Town] (1988), La Fantastique Chevauchée [Riding the Fantasy] (1994), Ze Spectacle [Ze Show] (1995), En 1 000 morceaux [In 1000 pieces] (1998), Le Kiosque [The Bandstand] (2000), Brocante sonore [The Mechanicians] (2004), Hors les rails [Off the rails] (2006), Obstinato [Obstinato] (2010), La preuve par 9 [The proof] (2011).

Driven by passion and sharing a common purpose, like fingers on a hand, the band has always stood up to be counted, spreading a sense of fun but also sharing a real sense of closeness amongst the thousands of people who come to hear and see them play.
