An acclaimed touring theatre company – The English Theatre Company (ETC) – is back on native shores for a one-off summer season of original comedies to be performed at The Courtyard Theatre, Shoreditch.

The experienced and charismatic theatre company has over 21 years experience touring across Europe. To date, they have given over 9,250 performances with collective audience viewing figures topping 2,000,000.

This summer, ETC will stage their best-loved plays for a one-off special season in London. Theatre-goers will be treated to strong, stand-out performances by a close-knit cast that works collaboratively with its audience to build high-energy theatrical experiences.

A Bit of a Hitch

Show schedule: Every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evening at 7.30pm. From 2nd – 28th July inclusive.

Tickets: £14 for Adults, £11 for Concessions

ETC was invited to perform this high-octane, screwball comedy at the European Theatre Festival in May 2013 by the British Council, representing the UK. Drawing on the famous scenes of Hitchcock’s best-loved works, this fast-paced romp through the author’s oeuvre is both irreverent and fondly respectful. The tight, three-person cast plays multiple characters, steering the audience through classic Hitchcockian moments, though not always in quite the way you might remember. Written and Directed by Michael Harry.

 Waiting on Shakespeare

Show schedule: Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening at 7.30pm. From 2nd – 28th July inclusive.

Tickets: £14 for Adults, £11 for Concessions

The key piece in ETC’s repertoire, Waiting on Shakespeare is the story of two actors waiting for their playwright. Having called together his players to rehearse a performance in front of an important prospective patron – Queen Elizabeth – Shakespeare, is nowhere to be found. This smiling farce dwells in the in-between times for these two waiting actors, who whilst waiting, are urged into existential questioning. Light-hearted and lovingly performed, this modern-classic has sustained over 800 performances across Europe. Written by Michael Harry, directed by Christopher Jefferies.

ETC Director Michael Harry comments: “It’s a huge boost to be back on home turf, and at the heart of Shoreditch’s bustling creative scene. Our style, honed over years of touring is always enlivened by the audience that we play to, so we can’t wait to share these modern-classics – about two such well-known and well-loved characters – with Londoners.”

ETC is performing at The Courtyard Theatre, Bowling Green Walk, 40 Pitfield Street, N1 6EU from 2nd  – 28th July 2013.
