William S. Burroughs’ Unseen work exhibited in Shoreditch

A new exhibition of William S. Burroughs’ original art entitled ‘Animals in the Wall’ opened on the 28th of August for just 10 days and showcases a new side to Burroughs’ striking work and premieres in the heart of East London, Shoreditch.

The exhibition curated by James Elphick & Yuri Zupancic exhibits 40 original Burroughs’ art works, many of which are completely exclusive to the exhibition. The exhibition also features original responses from well-known, as well as emerging artists, exploring strong relevant themes to inspire and catch a new generation’s interest.

You might not be familiar with the character but you definitely have come across some of his work at one point or another. William S. Burroughs was an American novelist, short story writer, essayist, painter and spoken word performer. Most of Burroughs’s stuff is semi-autobiographical, primarily drawn from his experiences as a drug addict, as he trotted the globe to live in many cities such as Mexico City, London, Paris, Berlin, Tangier or Morocco.

He was also one of the biggest figues of the Beat Generation. The latter questioned politics, explored religion, developed styles & creative methods, and wrote about the human condition. This legacy is explored, re-defined and re-appropriated for a modern audience through connected commissioned artists, deliberately designed to expand, introduce and directly engage with young, innovative, and cultured audience alongside mature fans of arts and literature.

Make sure not to miss out, it’s open to the public until the 7th of September in Londonewcastle Project Space.
