Spreading a murky hue over the natural world, Czech photographer Martin Rak’s photos are as eerie as they are arresting. Choosing to capture in the early morning, his portfolio is a study of the world at a time before civilisation descends upon it. From sinister forestscapes and the sun breaking over a rocky crag, to sleeping towns and un-peopled gondolas there a sense of desolation to these photos that conjures up ideas of a post-human state of nature.
The distinctive tone alongside their detailed and immersive beauty of Rak’s pictures has won him acclaim and awards at both the International Photo Awards and the Prix de Photographie.
On his website, Rak writes, “It is a beautiful feeling to stand on a cliff in the morning silence, above the endless sea of clouds and to be there when the first light touches the landscape. I try to capture this atmosphere with my camera and share it with you.”
