Works in Vinyl by Keith Haynes

Musicians are judged by the records they produce. If they’re good enough, their records become gold or even platinum. Vinyl is the medium on which music is produced. It’s most likely sold in a cardboard sleeve and kept on a shelf next to a record player. But what if records weren’t used for playing music? Vinyl and mixed media artist Keith Haynes  shows us another way records can represent musicians.

Using vinyl records, Haynes makes portraits of those who produced them. Amy Winehouse is created with her record, Love is a Losing Game. The Sex Pistols’ God Save the Queen is cut into the Queen’s silhouette on the Union Jack, much like the song’s original artwork. Haynes also uses records to create other silhouettes, like Great Britain or the Underground map.

Using one form of art to create another is a Haynes’ way of representing these artists with their music in another way.
