Photography project Humans of the Street by Mikaël Theimer proves that his art is not only inspiringly beautiful but also carries a powerful social message.

The project raises awareness about homelessness in Montreal, as he takes to the street to capture stunning black and white portraits of those living there, before getting them each to tell their unique life stories in their own words.

This collection essentially gives a voice to the often unheard and was originally based on the wildly popular Humans of New York project by Brandon Stanton.

Parisian-born Mikaël hopes the project will change people’s perceptions of the homeless and encourage others to simply view them as ‘human beings’.

He said on his blog: ”If these testimonies show that these men and women have often had difficult past, they also show that if you take the time to look at them, homeless have much to tell.  And for me to be told more than once, simply take the time to listen to them makes a big difference in their day.”.
