Artist Ali Cavanaugh paints what she can’t hear

piece+together+an+openness++full

Artist Ali Cavanaugh lost most of her hearing as a result of spinal meningitis she contracted at two years of age. Because of this, she began to depend on the visual world and use her sight to interpret body language and reading lips to communicate. Through that, she was able to understand an unspoken language that she explores in her water color paintings. Each piece is a portrait of a young child surrounded by a luminescent blue glow. She focuses on the seen and unseen aspect of human connection and tries to  visualize that in her work.
