Trespass launched an event over the bank holiday that was an intimate concert experience to remember. Each night over the four-day weekend housed an immersive live music event that featured four acts— Amber Run, Martin Luke Brown, Lyra and Prose.
The night started off with a journey to Spitalfield to meet the Trespass organizers. Once you arrived, they handed you a map with the actual location of the concert. Groups of people lined the pavement by the corner of what appeared to be an abandoned home, eagerly waiting for the doors to open and for the night to begin.
The old home was decorated with worn-down furniture in the main room giving the appeal that you are ‘trespassing’ somewhere you shouldn’t be. The concert experience began when one of the walls covered in paper was ripped down to reveal a hidden room cloaked in smoke. In the distance everyone could hear the beginning notes of Amber Run’s song ‘5AM’. Together the crowd of one hundred entered the room decorated with a large tree right in the center and surrounded the piano where the band stood.
To say Amber Run was phenomenal would be an understatement. Over the course of their set they surrounded the audience with beautiful sounds that had everyone swaying. The best part of their set was when people scattered around the audience harmonized with the bands hit song ‘I Found’. What made their performance so intimate was the ability for the audience to wrap around them as they stood at the piano, letting everyone into their own intimate world.
The event continued as the crowd was shuttled from floor to floor, each decorated to the artist’s theme and lyrics. Martin Luke Brown performed on the second floor in a small stage in front of a small cove. His charisma with the crowd left and strong vocals left a want for more songs that would keep the show going longer.
On the third floor of the old home standing amongst flowers and vines was Lyra. Dressed in all black and a leather jacket, she filled the room with her powerfully dark lyrics. The addition of her drummer and keyboardist provided the room with sounds that made the walls vibrate. Her friendly personality contrasted well against the darkness that her lyrics possessed in certain songs.
Prose ended the night in the basement. The set-up was intimate resembling the set that you would see for a hip garage band concert. With mixture of rap, blues and rock, the group let the crowd trespass into their personal lives with lyrics reaching more serious topics.
Each artist provided their own flare to a show while working well to fill the overall theme and vibe. It was a concert experience of a lifetime where you felt like you were intimately connected with each artist, following them on their journey through the songs they performed.
The space not only worked for the entire weekend, but helped to heighten the intimate experience making it for a concert that was outside the norm for typical. All that is left is to wonder when Trespass will hold the next concert so that tickets can be purchased immediately.
