An exhibition of original paintings, prints, sculptures and rare items of the artist known as Bansky are on display at Rome’s Palazzo Cipolla museum. This art exhibition is curated from private collections around the world to show the public Banksy’s extensive work. The exhibition will run from 24 May – 4 September 2016.
This is the first time that the public will have an opportunity to view this large of a collection of Bansky’s original work in a museum. Social and political views take a forefront on how they are viewed by Bansky. He uses wit and artistic skill to capture different moments of protest. Some works include his black and white stenciled monkey declaring ‘one day we’ll be in charge’ and the unsettling image of ‘Kids on Guns.’
War, Capitalism & Liberty non-profit exhibition will feature these key components that seem to be primary sources of inspiration for Bansky. The artist is characterized as having a strong drive towards social protest with many of the themes current to our present time.
Although the artist remains anonymous, Bansky is believed to be born in Bristol back in 1974. His anonymous persona has captivated audiences since the 1990s. Due to his anonymity, Banksy is a difficult artist to nail down with all of his artwork. This will be the first survey to exhibit a large range of his pieces over the years.
Banksy held his first show in Bristol back in 2000 at the Severn Shed. Since then, he has exhibited his work across the world. When he experimented in film, his documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop received an Oscar nomination.
His media ranges from murals to sculptures to paintings on canvas. This wide-range of mediums will be displayed in over 120 different pieces of art at the exhibition. His distinctive style combines stencil and graffiti writing, which is said to have developed due to his need to create large-scale works quickly.
The Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Italia e Mediterraneo is exhibiting the show in Rome. The group has focused primarily on the phenomenon of street art for a long time, displaying different street artists from across the world.
