Malgorzata Chodakowska’s water-accented sculptures

Malgorzata Chodakowska transforms the ideas of still sculptures by adding a moving water element to her bronze figures. ‘Fountains’ features figures standing as the center piece while water is spurting out of them in beautiful images. The water is an essential part to complete the entire image of the sculpture that Chodakowska is creating. The polish-born sculptor adds movement to each bronze figure she creates with how the water erupts out of the statues. The unlikely places give the sculptures more of a human element to them that makes them come to life. Malgorzata Chodakowska spent spent 2-6 months in completing each of the sculptures depending on how complex they were. In order to create each sculpture, Chodakowska starts out with molding the figures into clay. To turn the sculptures from molds to statues, she places them in bronze. After deciding where she wants to water to erupt from she is able to create endless streams from each figure to complete the story.

 

Chodakowska has sculpted for over 30 years working with both wood and bronze for her different statues. Her craftsmanship is able to balance the beauty and perfection her angelic figures can show in her different sculptures. She described her bronze sculptures as having the ability to “spread pure joy, combing the element water with the raw material — bronze.”
