Brits are becoming more unhygienic, the results of a new study into the nation’s bathroom etiquette have shown.
Among the bathroom blunders committed by young people was not washing their hands after going to the toilet – something they’re four times more likely to do. They’re also three times more likely to use someone else’s razor or toothbrush!
Putting the younger generation to shame, 65% of people over 45 have never used someone else’s bathroom products.
Another filthy fact revealed in the 2016 UK Bathroom Etiquette Survey, which was carried out by bathroom firm Soakology, was that 18-24 year olds are 42% more likely to wee in the shower compared to those aged 55 and older.
Settling a debate that has rocked households across the country, 87% of women want to find the toilet seat down – and so do 60% of men!
Chatting on the toilet may be commonplace, but just one in 25 people are happy to talk to someone else whilst doing their business.
Here are some London-specific stats revealed by the survey:
- A quarter of Londoners have confessed to having ‘relations’ in the bath or shower. The next most popular bathtime activities are singing (49.6%), weeing (45% are guilty of this) and crying (23.5%).
- While sat on the toilet, Londoners are most likely to just do the business that they’re there for.
- Of the ones who like to keep busy, however, the next most popular activities include thinking (37.3%), reading (28.5%) and checking emails (23.5%).
- 55% of Londoners can say that they have never used anyone else’s bathroom products. The most commonly borrowed products in London are shower gel, facewash and razors.
- 26% of Londoners agree with the phrase ‘If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.’ 48% disagree, while 26% are ambivalent.
- Just 12.7% of Londoners confessed to using harmful microbead products in the bathroom.
- Just 10% of Londoners would install a shower toilet in their own home (3% already have one). 28% wouldn’t because it’s too weird.
