Nature is dangerous, nature is scary — but humans are all a part of nature.
Self-portrait photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen tests the limits of the human body in his photographs. His surreal images of the human body blending with nature are the result of dangerous stunts such as leaning over a steep cliff or staying under water for prolonged periods of time. He does not make use of an assistant for his portraits, for adding an assistant takes away from the ‘self’ in ‘self-portrait’. All his photos are 100 percent photographed by him, regardless of safety.
His body becomes a part of the landscape in his photos. It does not seem odd to have feet blending with a desert or reflections of hands on ice. He fills the gaps in nature with ease. There is no difference between man and nature: only the idea of it.
