Variety store products transform into fantastical installations

Large scale installations are often overlooked for the sheer detail that an artist has put into the work. Contemporary artist Crystal Wagner, who’s background in printmaking has allowed her to refine her focus on detail, creates such voluminous installations using ordinary products found in every variety store. Such products, like plastic table cloths, chicken wire, and tape, develop into beautiful recreations of organic forms found throughout nature. Though the florescent and neon colors Wagner uses betrays the original forms of these intricacies, the life-like designs reflects vines, petals and other organic patterns that work together to create a fantastical creation of nature. As Wagner’s installations are often site-specific for brands like NIKE, GNU snowboards, and even The Flaming Lips band, her focus on the construction’s volume allows the purity in detail to evolves into a seamless blend of color schemes and organic intricacies.
