The Gods of Yesterday Visit the City

The clock ticks away, yet the expiration date for certain pieces of art remains irrelevant. Paintings and sculptures can exist for thousands of years and still remain pertinent to the modern world.

Artist Alexey Kondakov toys with the idea of timeless art in his photoshopped creations. Classic Renaissance paintings are merged with modern landscapes in ‘The Daily Life of Gods’. Angels travel on public transport. Drunken men are sprawled outside of a convenience store, rather than on the dining room floor. Drinks are shared outside of the subway station.

The figures from these Renaissance paintings transcend lifetimes, yet still fit seamlessly into new settings. Kondakov explores how life has not changed much over the last several hundred years. Humans are humans, deities are deities. The basic values and principles remain the same.
