Meet electronic pop artist Rijell

Electronic pop musician Rijell released his latest single ‘One Chance’ via Aureon Records. The musician labels himself as the “DIY artist”, as he sings, writes and produces his music alone.

Through time, Rijell has collaborated with artists 3LAU, Starkillers, Domeno, and artist UNEK.  The dance music producer and DJ 3LAU, has consistently featured the Rijell remix of ‘This Is Love’ for his live sets, for the past three years. The musician has played on some of electronic music’s highly praised stages like Ile Soniq Festival (The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, Zedd, Skrillex), Villa Paradizo Festival (Sander Van Doorn, Thomas Gold, FTampa) and New City Gas With 3LAU (Justin Caruso and Prince Fox). The ‘DIY artist’ answers a few questions in our brief interview with him.

Tell us about you, how long have you been producing music? What did inspire you to start?

I remember myself playing with FL studio on my computer more than 10 years ago, but I have been producing music on a serious basis about 8 years ago.
Most electronic scene artists were music producers and at this time in my life, I was really into it.

The music industry is super competitive these days, was there a moment in your life that you wanted to give up on music?  How did you manage to stay focused and achieve what you want?

I think for any artists there is up and downs. One day you think you’re kicking it and the next you find yourself believing it would be better to stop. I always try to recenter myself by remembering the path that every successful people took was challenging.

How would you describe your creative processes? Who writes the lyrics to the songs? Are the music and lyrics written in conjunction, or separately?

My creative process is always a little bit different from project to project. Since I am creating all of my music, I am often all over the place working on details everywhere.

However, I have a particular writing process for the lyrics. I mostly write my lyrics after that I find good instrumental and good vocal melodies.

Where the inspiration comes from?

Nowadays I find myself getting inspired by all the music I used to listen to during high school. A lot of artists during that period of my life inspired me and made me vibrate to their music.

What’s your favourite track from the upcoming album and what other bands/artists are you listening to right now?

So far I am still crafting my ideas for an upcoming EP/Album so I can’t really say at the moment which one is my favourite.  Right now I have ears for Johnny Rain, Blink 182, Tory Lanez, The Chainsmokers.

What’s next for you?

A lot of pure and emotional music, and hopefully some big shows ahead!
