Kia Telluride became the “World Car of the Year”

Traditionally, the winners of the annual World Car of the Year contest are announced at the New York Auto Show, but this year the pandemic made adjustments. In March, due to the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show, the contest organizers had to limit themselves to publishing a list of candidates, although this was supposed to happen in an official setting as part of the motor show. For the same reason, the official award ceremony in New York did not take place, but the winners were named and will receive their awards. The winners were determined by an international jury of 86 automotive journalists.

The title “World Car 2020” went to the crossover Kia Telluride. To win the final, he had to fight with the Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30. Telluride was previously named “Car of the Year in North America” and “Best Choice” according to Consumer Reports.

In the “Premium Car” and “Sports Car of the Year” categories, the victory went to Porsche Taycan. In the first case, he had to fight with the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz EQC, in the second – with the Porsche 911 and Porsche 718.

“The best city car” was the electric car Kia Soul EV. The jury estimated the power reserve of the electric car – 391 km according to the American EPA cycle. Volkswagen T-Cross and Mini Cooper SE Electric also claimed victory in this category.

The award for the best design went to the Mazda3, which was only two points ahead of the Porsche Taycan, which earned 177 points. In the standings, the third contender for victory in this category – Peugeot 208 – 144 points. As the jury noted, in this nomination “Best Design” the struggle for the award was the hottest.
