Marcus Mars Makes Metal Meaningful

The demand for blacksmiths is decreasing rapidly in a world full of machines that can mold metal in seconds. What these machines can’t do is create pieces of handcrafted artwork, each one unique in shape and style.

Marcus Mars is an Oslo-based blacksmith that found a passion for metal work by designing knives for international collectors. His fascination with metal art blossomed after discovering he enjoyed using this medium as a mode of expression. In his series “JOMARK,”  Mars conceptualizes emotions and experiences into metal figures. The starkness of each piece evokes a feeling of loneliness and vulnerability despite the strength of the medium he created it with.

Even though metal is an extremely durable material, it is malleable and able to be shaped into various forms, similar to the human experience.
