Laying permanent roots in East London for less

Whitechapel is well known for its vibrant nightlife and fantastic cultural scene – and has an equally flourishing property scene to match.

Recently named by Evening Standard as one of 2021’s most exciting places to buy in, Whitechapel is fast becoming a major property destination thanks to its central location, great transport links and significant investment in new homes.

Helping first-time buyers onto the property ladder in Whitechapel, L&Q is offering one and two bedroom Shared Ownership apartments at L&Q at The Silk District. Part of a £300m regeneration masterplan delivering a new urban quarter including 564 homes, commercial buildings and public spaces, L&Q’s new homes offer first-time buyers the chance to own their own slice of this trendy destination.

Claire Brenlund, Director of Sales at L&Q, comments: “We are thrilled to be providing Shared Ownership homes at L&Q at The Silk District. Thanks to its proximity to the City as well as its thriving cultural setting, there’s few better spots in East London that satisfy the Monday to Friday grind as well as weekend recreation. Normally this balance comes at a high cost, but thanks to Shared Ownership, this lifestyle is more accessible for many.”

Shared Ownership Explained

Shared Ownership is a government-backed part-buy, part-rent scheme, which allows eligible first-time buyers to purchase a percentage share of their home and pay a subsidised rent on the unowned share. Initially, buyers purchase between 25%-75% of a property’s full market value, with the deposit and mortgage relative to the share value. Buyers can then purchase more shares through a process called staircasing, until they own their home outright and no longer need to pay any rent. There’s no obligation though – buyers have the flexibility to own the share that suits their financial situation.

At L&Q at The Silk District, new purchasers can secure a new home with a deposit of just 10% of the share value, starting from £12,438 for a 25% share of a one bedroom apartment.

Contemporary City Apartments

Perfectly equipped for modern living, apartments feature floor to ceiling windows and open-plan living spaces as well as a private balcony or terrace to every home.

A unique blend of green living in a buzzing metropolitan environment, the development is centred around attractive communal green spaces and landscaped planting, ideal for residents looking to unwind after a long day in the City.

Buyers at L&Q at The Silk District will also enjoy access to a fantastic array of on-site facilities, including a private gym, peloton spin studio, residents-only cinema and 24-hour concierge service.

Quintessential East London living

A stone’s throw away from some of London’s most iconic landmarks, L&Q at The Silk District is in prime position for exploring some of East London’s hottest neighbourhoods.

Home to a vibrant array of global cuisines, nearby Brick Lane is a treasure trove of culture, just a 10 minute walk from the development. Shoreditch, Spitalfields Market and Bethnal Green are also a 10 minute walk away, providing residents with endless choices for cultural excursions.

Closer to home, Whitechapel itself has a thriving nightlife scene, from elegant cocktail bars to traditional pubs that ooze East End character and history. The famous Whitechapel Gallery has hosted works by Picasso, Pollock and Kahlo and continues to push artistic boundaries in its contemporary exhibitions. For literary fans, the Idea Store is also nearby, whilst the Wilton Music Hall is the oldest of its kind in the world and hosts a regular schedule of music and theatre events.

Brilliant transport on the doorstep

Perfect for commuters seeking a prime Zone 2 location, L&Q at the Silk District is situated just moments from Whitechapel station and within walking distance of the City. Fast becoming a transport hub, Whitechapel station is already serviced by the District Line, Hammersmith & City and Overground lines. Set to launch next year, the Elizabeth Line will further improve connections, with journeys to Canary Wharf cut to just three minutes, and two minutes to Liverpool Street.
