In artist Daniel Arsham‘s exhibition titled The Future Was Then, he uses various wall excavations to put his audience in an immersive experience that encourages the viewer to “find” sculptures that appear to be emerging from the past. These walls have smaller areas that are placed within the larger exhibit to create a tactile experience that feels like space is being both added and taken away. Arsham explores the idea of the past, present and future. He understands that the present and past remain the same but the future holds a huge fall of the unknown.
Arsham is both a futurist, artist and archeologist. He uses this project to tell the archeology of the future.
