Yum Bug, the UK’s leading cricket-meat company backed by James Watt (BrewDog) and Holly Branson (Virgin), have launched their first ever flagship restaurant in the heart of East London – with most tables now taken. To meet the insatiable demand of grub-hungry Londoners, Yum Bug has another groundbreaking announcement – more opening dates!
Launched on the 26th October, at Old Street’s “The Bower”, home to some of London’s biggest food and drink concepts, the Yum Bug Restaurant is revolutionising the UK’s culinary scene by offering seasonal small plates all featuring one very special, sustainable superfood – crickets.
The North London start-up, pioneered by entomologist Aaron Thomas and designer Leo Taylor, has captured the attention of top UK chefs including Sam Clark (chef-owner, Moro), Clem Haxby (culinary director, Salad Project), Tim Molema (Owner, The Dynamo – also Head of Food at Nandos), and James Nathan (previous MasterChef Winner) – who are all designing iconic bug-based recipes exclusively for the menu.
Chefs Sophie Godwin, Adam Bush, and Finn Tonry Brown will be on site every night cooking up these delicious dishes, with drinks and condiments provided by other disruptive brands who are shaking up the food and drink sector such as BrewDog, MOTH drinks, London Essence, Rubies in the Rubble, and more.
Menu features:
- Cricket mince topped hummus with seasonal crudites. Sam Clark, Moro. ● Calabrian chilli & tomato pappardelle with cricket pieces. Chad Crooks, BrewDog. ● Cricket ragu with polenta & golden garlic. Finn Tonry Brown, Trullo, Mob Kitchen. ● Spiced mince flatbread with pomegranate & onion. Tim Molema, The Dynamo (also Head of Food, Nandos).
Expect a bold, immersive dining experience that stands out from London’s vibrant food scene and embrace entomophagy (the practice of eating insects), like 80% of the world’s countries who already do!
