After 15 years, the current funding from Young Hackney for Hoxton Hall’s much-loved and local youth arts programme is coming to an end.
In response, Hoxton Hall has launched a campaign, Thrive: Hoxton Hall. Everyone is interested in the wellbeing of young people and their drive to develop skills in arts and culture, and they can donate and help Hoxton Hall achieve its vision that “… everyone thrives through the joy and togetherness of creativity”.
Many of the young people who come to us have been referred from Pupil Referral Units, and projects like Turnaround (a youth engagement project) as a positive pathway away from crime.
One person who has been coming to Hoxton Hall for 11 years credits us as “…the one consistent place in my life where I can be myself and feel supported.”
With your help, Hoxton Hall will continue to provide free access to the arts for young people aged 7 to 18 for 50 out of 52 weeks a year. It serves 250 youngsters each week in a Grade II* Listed theatre venue with a long history of performance and creativity.
A Hackney youth worker says: “What Hoxton Hall provides is priceless. Young people need a safe, inclusive, fun and accessible space where they are able to be themselves and also seek support at the same time. Hoxton Hall is all of these things.”
Stuart Cox Hoxton Hall’s CEO said “We understand that all local authorities in the UK are having to make difficult decisions. It’s disappointing that we will no longer receive Hackney financial support for this work. Thrive: Hoxton Hall is our response. We cannot let this long-term commitment to our young people and their families die.
We also have big plans for all our work to improve health and wellbeing outcomes through culture in parallel with the aim of continuing this core work with young people giving access training, development and, ultimately, work the creative industries.”
Hoxton Hall’s Chair, David Sulkin OBE, says “Hoxton Hall has been serving its community since 1863. That’s 161 years of community service. In 2024 we are ready for the new challenges that lie ahead and fundraising for our community is the main theme of our strategy”.
