With London’s lifestyle returning back to normality on 21 June, London City Island will host The Islander FestivalThe summer event programme will kickstart on 27 June and will celebrate the opening (and reopening) of its family of businesses, as well as welcome the neighbourhood’s first outdoor cinema screenings and a programme of alfresco musical performances and markets.

City Island’s Summer Cinema will celebrate the return of the iconic Wimbledon Championship tournaments (28 June – 11 July 2021), with an evening showing of the famous Brit romcom Wimbledon on 27 June, followed by full coverage of the Wimbledon Championships (free walk-ins, except for the finals which will be ticketed). From 12 – 18 July, there will be alfresco blockbusters for all the family so have your popcorn at the ready and settle into your deckchair to watch a whole range of top musical, comedy, family, action and superhero favourites.

Headphones will be provided at all blockbuster screenings. Tickets are £10pp for evening screenings and £5pp for day screenings (includes a deck chair or beanbag and silent headphones). See film listings below.

London City Island’s very own onsite gourmet chocolate shop, Cartografie, from Kae Shibata, ex Pastry Chef at The Ritz and Sven-Hanson Britt, Winner of Masterchef the Professionals The Rematch 2019, will be serving visitors homemade ice creams, sorbets and freshly cooked popcorn along with single-origin iced and hot chocolate drinks and Yorkshire strawberries with chocolate sauce. Whilst The Lockdown Beach Hut will be serving an array of summer seasonal drinks, including Pimm’s, Aperol Spritz, Champagne, beers and ice coffees… oh and did someone say strawberry mojito iced lollies!?’ England’s best sparkling wine, Nyetimber, will be serving the best of English fizz, whilst Wanderlust Wine will be providing a selection of interesting organic wines from around the world.

Leading cultural neighbourhood’s family of businesses welcomes back East London community…

London City Island’s lifestyle tenants will be celebrating the reunion and return of the local East London community with the announcement of an array of exciting opening plans to bring in the much-missed hustle and bustle: 

The Wild London, a new plant, interior styling and retail store recently opened on London City Island, will offer complimentary weekly workshops every Sunday at 11:30 and 14:30 from 16th May. Workshops include Plant 101, which will help islanders and visitors learn about pruning and grooming houseplants, organic and plant-based beauty sessions with talks from the London Beauty School, and much more.

Soda & Friends, the new neighbourhood cocktail bar, will officially open late June. Founder Nate Brown’s previous venues have won numerous prestigious awards in the UK drinks scene, and he hopes to bring a slice of that to London City Island. The bar will offer quality spirits in refreshing, relaxing, accessible formats, accompanied by a Japanese inspired food menu.

WOK & GRILL will open in August and have a traditional gourmet street food market self-service system. Specialising in grilled Argentinian meats and wok cooked Asian foods, WOK & GRILL will have a wide range of fresh tasty cocktails to sip on while enjoying the cooking show.

The team behind The Espresso Room will be celebrating having another offering on the island and will see The Lockdown Room’s grand opening early August. The venue will be a vibrant all-day creative hub of food, drink and entertainment. Featuring a taproom serving London’s finest craft beers, two mouth-watering street food offerings as well as regular live music performances from some of London’s freshest new talent.

arebyte Gallerya contemporary space dedicated to New Media and Performance Art, reopens this month with an array of interactive exhibitions. The art space will kickstart with a new commission by UK based artist Alan Warburton until 30 May 2021. His work RGBFAQ comprises a research-led experiential exhibition in which the audience navigates a “black-box” set populated by gigantic geometric sculptures. Between 12 June – 20 July 2021, Kate Frances Lingard, finalist from the gallery’s annual young artist development programme, will exhibit tender spots in hard code… an illustrated set of standard playing cards which channels the fraught and complex convergence of social, economic and technological space.

Last year London City Island welcomed creative space London Lighthouse Gallery & Studio, founded by resident and photographer Sokari Higgwe. Seekd will be hosting a pop up showcasing an exclusive collection of everyday wearable statement pieces exquisitely made by talented emerging jewellery designers using innovative techniques, telling their own stories of travel, humanity and childhood memories. The jewellery will be in the gallery ready to shop until August.

After plenty of anticipation, new Homestead restaurant from ex-Ritz chef Sven-Hanson Britt, as well as Tris Hillier and Scott Ward of Unlocked, has recently opened its outside terrace for the first time since launching in December last year. The menu focuses on ethically sourced and high-welfare British ingredients. Homestead also run a takeaway bakery and deli for collection, as well as florist to brighten up any home.

During Summer there will also be pop up markets and alfresco music sessions on 11 June, 23 July, 13 August and 10 September (5pm – 9pm).
