Nudity not gratuitous say guerrillas

Guerilla Galleries Random Acts PosterShoreditch-based Guerilla Galleries latest art exhibition which features an installation of eight nude models as its centrepiece is not gratuitous nudity says gallery spokesperson Lenka Kovarikova.
The show entitled; Random Acts of Artistry 2: The Big Art Show opens on Wednesday 14 August and promises up to 250 original pieces of artwork from some of Europe’s best new and emerging artists. By allowing the participating artists total and absolute creative freedom the organisers hope to produce a vibrant and eclectic mix of quality imaginative work that won’t ultimately bite them on the bottom.
Kovarikova said: “When the inversed voyeurism installation was first suggested we wondered how it would work. But when you consider the nude form in art is as old as art itself we have no issues with the validity of the piece, it will be up to the audience to interpret it however they will.”
Artists such as Paris-based Elizabeth Roman, Germany’s Alex Becker, Singapore’s Nicola Anthony and Chilean Jessica Suarez join a more local line-up who regularly show in Hoxton, including Gareth Morgan, David Vigor, Pouka, Piluca, Debra Taylor, Ben Mellor, Irene Godfrey, Nigel Potter and Matthew Chapman.
From its Hoxton offices the gallery’s production team are hoping to conjure up yet another stimulating art excursion, transporting at least 50 unseen pieces from its vaults up the A1 to Islington’s Daniel Libeskind Space where the three-day show will be mounted.
Production director Keeley Wynn said: “Invited artists were given total autonomy so we might be in for a few surprises.
“It’s very seldom that artists are given total creative freedom it’s a unique opportunity and we’re extremely pleased with what has come forward.”
In January 2013 the Guerillas presented its controversial 100% NUDE show, which presented 100 works of nude art to an audience that included 100 nude visitors. ART & PROTEST, an exhibition that explored political art, followed in April and bizarrely featured five portraits of the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher days before her death.
The show opens on Wednesday 14th August with an exclusive Private View at the iconic stainless steel clad 10,000 sq. ft. Daniel Libeskind Space. Entry is free with Guerilla Galleries touting it as a three-day celebration of original contemporary art.
