Moniker Art Fair 2013 – The Truman Brewery

The shorts and flip-flops are now, well and truly, packed away and replaced with heavy jackets and umbrellas. Whilst the long summer nights cement themselves as nothing more than a distant memory, the autumn season does indeed bring with it one of East London’s best new traditions. That’s right, Moniker Art Fair is back, and it’s looking pretty damn fine.

Relocating from its previous residence in the Village Underground, Moniker will be setting up shop this year in the newly refurbished Truman Brewery, just off Brick Lane.

Moniker - VinzEstablished four years ago, Moniker has always offered a refreshing alternative to often dry and stagnant art fairs. Striving to push the boundaries of contemporary and urban art, it provides a great space for artists, both emerging and established.

Sheffield’s Jo Peel will be bringing her take on the urban streets of London, by creating an all-encompassing installation, complete with giant buildings and decaying walls. London’s own David Shillinglaw will also be bringing his colourful, chaotic interpretations of identity and interaction, to the fair. You may well recognise both names as staples of London’s street art scene.

Of course, the stretch of talent goes much further than the boundaries of the UK. Galleries will be representing artists both domestic and international. Rumour has it, Souled Out Studios, will be exhibiting from a two-floor Vietnam style bunker. Surely worth the ticket price alone.

Personal highlights for me will be seeing the return of Vinz to London, with his multi-faceted human/animal hybrids. Also, it’s great to see the London Police will be over from their Amsterdam base, which is always exciting. Fingers crossed they get a chance to hit up some outdoor space too.

For a fuller list of all artists and galleries involved, do swing by the website at http://www.monikerartfair.com

The doors will be open to the public from Friday 17th Oct until Sunday 20th, and you can get a chance to go and see it all for yourself.

Tickets are going for £8, however there’s a few offers on the table. If you click here and enter the code MONIKER13 at the checkout you’ll receive a 50% discount, bringing it down to just £4. If you really want to step-up your game and get the full art experience, local tour company Alternative London will be offering special tours over the weekend. For £10 you get a tour of local street art then a full tour of all the works inside the fair. This is a chance to really get to know your Vinz from your D*Face!
