SUBFICTION

Q&A with mysterious producer, SUBFICTION

We sat down with Versatile Dutch producer SUBFICTION who unveiled a new single, ‘we_glitch’, on April 26th, 2024 via On Track / SUBFICTION. ‘we_glitch’, which premiered via Electronic Groove, is an appetiser for his forthcoming EP of the same name, slated for release in May 2024. Since the project’s inception in 2022, the year in which he notably played an official after-show for Ross From Friends, the elusive SUBFICTION has been making waves in the music industry with no signs of slowing down.

SUBFICTION delivers an epic piece of Future Garage music, raw and punchy the track is layered with repetitive melodic textures infused with a calibrated snare serving up the backbeat. The track then morphs into an earthy groove sure to set dance floors ablaze. An integral part of a SUBFICTION live show is the unique and truly innovative visuals. The artist actually guides the audience through several virtual worlds and manipulate the elements, such as all flora and fauna, in the virtual world.

The music industry is super competitive these days, was there a moment in your life that you wanted to give up on music?  How did you manage to stay focused and achieve what you want?

Anonymity provides focus, but sometimes it’s quite lonely underneath the veil.

How would you describe your creative processes? Who writes the lyrics to the songs? Are the music and lyrics written in conjunction, or separately?

Most of the time I start with a pigeon-like dance to get things flowing. Afterwards I combine all my toys to make something weird.

Where did the inspiration come from?

UK warehouse parties and a Korg ms-20

What’s your favorite track from the upcoming album and what other bands/artists are you listening to right now?

Flight FM by Joy Orbison and James Blake’s new album.

What’s next for you?

My audiovisual debut album Enter will be released this year. From melancholic ambient to heavy breakbeats. May the glitch be with you.
