Tell us about FiftyTwo Social and Chopsticks of fury?  How did the idea come about?

Chopsticks of fury came from a shared love of the explosion in street food in east London and a desire to incorporate that into a venue that could provide people with a more traditional pop-up experience with themed cocktails, Asian pop-cultue based decor and regular events along the same lines such as guest chefs, movie screenings, live music, dj’s and competitions. We felt that the pop-up scene had moved too far from its roots and so wanted to bring that back offering an evening of fun, entertainment and good food and drinks. 52 Social is our company that will host these events, so called as we are at number 52 Kingsland road.

What is unique about this pop-up?

We feel that we’re unique in what we’re offering in Shoreditch as currently the trend is to go safer, smarter, lower quality. We are aiming to cater for the whole experience, with quality food and drinks and just a little bit of classic Shoreditch anarchy tossed in for good measure!

Why did you go for Asian pop culture theme?

The Asian pop-culture theme arose from years of being brought up watching classic Kung Fu movies and episodes of Monkey Magic, the huge popularity of Anime and Manga and the incredible Japanese cosplay fashions. Its all hugely fun and very energetic and ties in perfectly with the Asian fusion menu.

How did you select the menu for this pop up?

The menu was chosen partly from looking at some British favourites like fish and chips and burgers and adapting those to have an Asian feel, combining eastern flavours with things like smoked cheese or mushy peas. On the reverse of that we’ve taken some classic Asian dishes and added a few western twists to compliment like onion rings and smoked bacon on the Singapore noodle, simply echoing ingredients already in the dish. The deserts amplify our emphasis on fun and introduce some interesting flavours to finish like white miso ice cream with rambutan and dragon fruit. Most of it’s actually quite healthy with great quality ingredients, complexity of flavours and local suppliers. Its naughty and delicious!

What are you future plans?

For the future we are looking to to host more themed events at the 52 Kingsland road site and possibly find an outdoor venue for the summer. We’re getting very excited about venturing into other parts of the worlds street foods, cultures and events being similarly staged in fun, energetic and ever so slightly bonkers environments!
