The eclectic Jazz Verse Jukebox returns to Hoxton Hall on Friday 21st June continuing the age-old tradition of combining jazz and performance poetry. With its reputation as one of London’s premier gatherings for spoken word poets and singers, the Jazz Verse Jukebox carries on its 10th anniversary celebrations with an exceptional line-up of wordsmiths and artists.
Since its inception in 2009, Jazz Verse Jukebox (the brainchild of BBC Radio London’s broadcaster Jumoké Fashola), has featured at some of our capital’s most prestigious venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the Royal Albert Hall and the Southbank Centre’s Poetry Parnassus. In 2016, Hoxton Hall became the exclusive home of this unique event.
Curated and hosted by the charismatic Jumoké Fashola and the JVJ Trio, the June edition promises to be a thrilling and diverse mix of fresh poetry, Dixieland jazz and Jumoké’s soulful voice. Special guests of the night include: poet, rapper and visual artist HKB FiNN, award-winning spoken word legend Agnes Meadows; activist, editor and poet Grim Chip; British-Nigerian poet Gboyega Odubanjo and slam poetry champion and storyteller Rachel Nwokoro.
With good reason, British poet, editor, artist and founder of New Departures, Michael Horovitz, OBE aptly described Jazz Verse Jukebox as ‘the perfect jazz poetry party’ and this edition will prove him right once again.
