To celebrate the launch of Sticky Crowd community, design-led signage company Glyphics are holding a competition which would be exciting opportunity for new and existing artists and creatives to collaborate, share, learn and exchange their knowledge about a subject matter of their interest, practice and demonstrate their skills, be noticed and appreciated for their talent.

Sticky Crowd is looking for a selection of creatives, vinyl art fans, graphic artists, graffiti artists, interior designers, illustrators to submit their original work for vinyl art graphic competition followed by exhibition of finalists’ artworks in Shoreditch, London on 8th of October 2013.

Task

Participants will have to create a character from their Sticky Crowd. A sticky character could be somebody or something (some person, object, creature) from their surroundings (local area, public places, neighborhood, event, etc.) or family members, friends, strangers they bump in, locals, pets, basically all living or fictional creatures, that are sticking around or people get stuck with (in traffic, lift, project, etc.). The theme is open to interpretation and creative insight onto sticky vinyl graphics potential in everyday life, surroundings and creative industries. To enter competition participants have to upload their competition entry via the Sticky Crowd website. Prizes

Apart from getting an original print of their unique piece of design, participants will be competing for the cash prizes. Also shortlisted winners will be invited to attend publicity event and have their interviews featured on Made in Shoreditch magazine’s websites. Winning artworks will be exhibited during finalists’ event. Top three final entries will be printed in vinyl material and auctioned for charity at an awards ceremony to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Winners will be selected by an independent panel of judges of creative industry gurus and designers who will pick 3 winning entries based on the creative interpretations of their Sticky Crowd character and use of vinyl material. Judging panel:

  • Prof Phil Healey (Head of Department at Middlesex University for Communications and Visual arts, winner of numerous prestigious awards, writer, graphic design, illustration and publishing consultant).
  • Steve Edge (‘Lord of Shoreditch’, dress dapper, brand designer, creative director/founder at Steve Edge Design Ltd: “If you dress like a party – the party will come to you”).
  • Pure Evil (Designer for Anarchic Adjustment, recording artists at FAX, street and graffiti artist, ‘accidental gallerist’ Charles Uzzell Edwards has exhibited worldwide with an emerging and established artists: “We are opposed to seeing artists as a commodity”).

Vinyl graphics add a new dynamics to the recent ‘pop up’ trends and give an opportunity for young creative minds to experiment and get hands on realizing their own graphic project ideas using contemporary materials and ‘sticky’ imagination.
