G: Tell us about your new album?
In The City is our debut EP so we’re naturally pretty excited to get it out there! We think it’s the perfect introduction to Stax Revue – it’s finger licking, heel clicking, down and dirty soul.
G: What is the inspiration behind your music?
Transatlantic is probably the one word answer. I’ve got a British and a US passport, and I guess our music does too. We draw a lot of inspiration from the big southern soul labels – Stax/Atlantic/Hi – as well as British rock and roll, from the Stones through to Arctic Monkeys.
G: What is innovative / different about what you do?
First and foremost we’re a live band, that’s where we get our kicks. For us it’s all about putting on a killer show every time, and making sure it’s always an occasion. It’s like sex, if you’re not sweating, out of breath, and almost passing out by the end then you’re not doing it right.
G: How would you describe the art scene in Shoreditch/East London?
Buzzing – there’s so much street art around and there’s always something new to look at. Alex and I used to live south of the river and it’s not a shade on Shoreditch.
G: Who/what are your favorite Artists/Businesses in the area?
Tough question. I’m a big fan of Religion Clothing and Alex always hits Brick Lane for new sunnies. If we’re talking favourite bands, check out Texas Radio and Blind Pilgrim.
G: What are your favorite places in Shoreditch?
A day in the life of Stax Revue: coffees at The Shoreditch Grind, dinner at Red Dog Saloon, beers at The Old Blue Last and then Queen of Hoxton for a sharp one.
