4G stands for the ‘fourth generation’ and it is the latest in high speed mobile broadband from phone companies. 4G means that, not only do you get all the features present in the current 3G broadband signal, you can also get ultra-fast loading times. As well as everything you could want from an internet signal, wherever you are.

First tested in the United Kingdom by O2 in 2009, 4G has since been launched by EE, Vodafone and Three.

Amongst those who have taken on 4G mobile broadband, EE were the first to take it on at the beginning of its rise. They have been able to provide mobile broadband signal with speeds of up to 30mbps. The 4G signal is currently being rolled out into various different areas at various different times. This means that whilst some customers can experience it right now, others may have to wait for just a few months to get hold of it.

For those who live in London, it’s good news. 4G signal has penetrated the capital and can be found almost everywhere across Zones 1 – 6. From Westminster to Croydon, you can get yourself on the Overground, sit back and watch iPlayer all the way into the centre of the city. London could also see 4G download speeds more than twice the speed of the country’s fastest broadband by the end of the year.

Those living further afield may not have it just yet, but every single 4G phone can also pick up 3G and 2G signals. You should be able to check a great 4G coverage map here on Phones 4U’s website and see whether the area you live in is covered by the signal, and whether you will have access to it.

So that means no more dull commutes when you are able to stream both music and video for the journey. You can also entertain yourself while waiting in the dentist’s or doctor’s waiting rooms as you will be able to just catch up with all your friends on Twitter and Facebook.
