Yup. Like Dia De Los Muertos come early, they’re back and tasty as ever. Shoreditch street food institution Death By Burrito has recently moved in their new permanent digs at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen bringing a wave of realness with them.
Known for their year long pop-up at Catch on Kingsland Road, where they collected gongs and rave reviews from everyone from The Times to The Gormand, founder, chef and recent Vice Munchies star Shay Ola has upped the ante touching down at HB+K with more mouthwatering avant-garde Mexican street food, killer cocktails and music worth scuffing shoes for.
Highlights? Maybe the flavoursome soy braised pork and smoked kim-chi tacos. Or maybe the quixotic quinoa and roasted vegetable variety. Perhaps the finger licking, sticky-sweet Agave buffalo chicken wings is more your thing. And perhaps, should you not have made it through their doors try their signature: a burrito with BBQ pulled pork & spicy slaw.
As for the drinks, we went Mezcal and beer (which we’ve now dubbed ‘The Troublemaker’), but without a doubt we advise starting with something from the tequila only curated cocktail list crafted by Imbibe Innovator of the Year, Ryan Chetiyawardana (Mr Lyan).
Not content taking Shoreditch, they’ve also now been pitching up tent across the pond with their first #EATDRINKDANCE at THE Parisian hotspot of this summer last weekend. Like some kind of Parisian Shoreditch House, the boat bar and restaurant La Passerelle Boulogne on the bank of the Seine in Paris from the peeps of Le Perchoir – yes, yes of ram jam rooftop party fame with tougher entry than Berghain – had opened their doors, The Death By Burrito vibes and flavours were so popular that they they decided this was just the beginning of a series London x Paris.
We’ll surely keep you posted.
And should you have other plans, don’t worry, Shay and the Death By Burrito chaps also just dropped their Death By Burrito – The Cookbook to bring some of the love back to the homestead.
Yup. Let’s #EATDRINKDANCE!
